For those of us living in the dominant cultural sphere of modern America, today is Thanksgiving.
It’s old news that this is a fraught holiday, built upon the celebration and erasure of genocide. Today, it is held as a national day of mourning and ceremony in Native communities across the US.
The truth is that I’ve always loves this holiday. And in my adult life, I love it because of the opportunity to listen more deeply to Indigenous voices and grievances that otherwise rarely make it to the top of the heap of cultural “discourse.” I love it because of the opportunity to sit in paradox, and feel into the groundwater of this land and the conflicted mythology that we, the uninvited guests, have built upon it.
I feel the paradox of grief and praise on this day of mourning, this day of gratitude, this day of unsettled belonging. If you’re sitting with similar sentiments, as I imagine you might be, I invite you to join me in the paradox.
Here’s some ideas: walk the paradox out onto the land, wherever you now call home. Commune with paradox of native foods, sacred seeds, life-ways, and traditions now reanimated into a hallmark cards of cartoonish consumption for those who tried to wipe said traditions off the map. Breathe the paradox into the crisp November air, feeling the centuries of pressure-cooked ancestral longing manifesting as steam before your eyes.
You’re not wrong for feeling good, bad, or anything at all.
Anyway, I come to you with some exciting news:
Tomorrow, I am launching my new course:
Psychedelics and the Soul: Level 1 - Mythopoetic Integration.
You’re invited to join a vibrant community of psychedelic practitioners and inner explorers to learn about the world of symbolism, dreams, and altered states of consciousness.
In this 6-week course, I’ll walk you through the “Mythopoetic Integration Method,” a way of working with visionary and psychedelic experiences that draws upon the traditions of Jungian depth psychology, archetypal psychology, dreamwork, and animistic perspectives.
It’s hard to make sense of otherworldly experiences when we don’t understand the language of the otherworld itself.
Every psychedelic facilitator, therapist, and explorer needs a way of interpreting the symbols, archetypal beings, energies, and insights that are often accessed when charting the inner realms. But often, we end up leaving behind many of the precious gems of wisdom because we don’t have a way of understanding the meaning contained within them.
As discussed in Chapter 1 of my book, Psychedelics and the Soul, I naturally developed this style of integration after working with hundreds of clients and retreat guests as a psychedelic therapist and guide. After seeing people struggle to make sense of their experiences, and having no meaningful way to integrate them beyond what surface-level changes they could make in their life, I found myself wanting to help my clients form a deeper relationship to the insights, visions, and teachings they accessed during their journeys.
Grounded in depth psychology, archetypal imagery, dreamwork, and animistic perspectives, the Mythopoetic Integration method embraces the notion that myths, dreams, and psychedelic experiences all emerge from the same groundwater of the collective psyche, what many have called the soul.
Now, having taught as a psychedelic educator in 5 different training programs, including Inner Trek and Naropa University’s Center for Psychedelic Studies, I’m excited to be offering this 6-week course for the first time.
Over 6-weeks, we will go through the five steps of the Mythopoetic Integration method:
Mythos (Story)
Pathos (Feeling)
Association (the personal unconscious)
Amplification (the collective unconscious)
Personification (the animistic/imaginal)
You’ll learn how to apply this framework when working with psychedelic integration clients, and with your own visionary experiences as well.
Weekly calls will take place on Tuesday afternoons, 4pm PST, for 2 hours. Each call will consist of a live lecture, followed by time for Q & A, practice sessions, breakout rooms, and deeper discussions into the material.
Each week will have readings and supplemental material provided to help you deepen into the topics. You’ll also practice this technique in realm time, with partnered exercises meant to get this method into your bones.
Who is this for?
If you’re a psychedelic therapist, facilitator, or integration coach looking to go deeper with your clients, then this course will help you do that. Perhaps you’ve completed a training program of some kind, but want deeper tools for the integration process. Or maybe you’re a therapist interested in working with psychedelics, but don’t know where to start. If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of symbolic, mythological, and archetypal imagery, this is also for you. If you’re a passionate psychedelic explorer who wants to find new ways of interpreting your own visionary experiences, this course will give you valuable tools and insights for understanding your own inner journey. Finally, if you’re interested in connecting with a community of people interested in psychedelic healing, mythology, and the mysteries of the soul, then this course is for you.
Who is this not for?
This course is not for folks who are just beginning their journey into psychedelics. This course is also not a good fit for people not interested in exploring alternative worldviews, traditions, and theories. If you’re someone who gravitates towards more scientific, observable, or evidence-based practices, this isn’t for you. Finally, if you’re not interested in doing your own work, connecting with others, or bringing some of your own self to the table, then this course likely isn’t a good fit.
I’ve taught the Mythopoetic Integration method to literally hundreds of students over the last few years. But this is the first time I am offering it as a fully developed, in-depth course. It is the first time that I will be teaching this integration technique in a deep way. Enrolling in this course now will also grant you access and act as a prerequisite to future courses in the future.
The course is $670. Since this is the first time I’m running it, it’s the cheapest this course is ever going to be again.
But right now, I am offering it for $365, about 50% off the asking price, a deal which will only be available for the next two days.
The course begins on Tuesday, January 28th.
This course is based on Chapter 1 of my book, as well as years of personal experience as a depth and psychedelic therapist and retreat leader, and many more years spent studying the traditions of Jungian psychology, anthropology, and comparative religion. There are years upon years of hard won experiential and academic knowledge poured into this course, literally thousands of hours of face-to-face client work, thousands of hours of research and reading that inform what I’ll be teaching.
I am confident that you will come away feeling grounded in the techniques and practices in a way that will truly enrich your life and work.
I’m sharing this offer with my Substack Subscribers first before I share it with my wider network. Enrollment is now open!
But, If now simply isn’t the time, I invite you to come to my monthly Mythopoetic Integration Circle, which is available for all paid subscribers. This monthly group call is an opportunity to see this method in action, and to engage in the type of collective, inner work that we’ll be doing on a more in-depth level in the course. It’s only $8 a month, plus you’ll get access to my full archive and audio essays.
Questions? feel free to shoot me a message:
I’m happy I’ve finally purchased your book and so seemingly synchronistic and strange I picked up the chapter on The Well from the Kindle. I just named my Substack Inner Well because that’s what I’m planning to write about right now. It’s something I’ve been thinking about since beginning to do iChing readings.
The Well was the first iChing hexagram I ever drew. I thought there was a reason at the time. I’m superstitious that way. I’ve been fascinated with the imagery ever since that time as well as portals and tunnels. Don’t know where they’re going to lead me. But, it feels like a good place to start — the source that sustains me.
So, I’m eager to see what a Jungian has to say about The Well and its symbolism. Maybe there’s some connection. We’ll see.
Thank you for explaining your intended audience for the workshop. Clearly, it’s not for me. I’m still a beginner, a baby swimming in the depths of uncharted waters with eyes wide open. I feel like a fool trying on pairs of shoes to see what pair best fits. I still think I’ll enjoy reading your book at whatever level I can comprehend at this time.
I hope your course goes well for you.
